Water Design – Build Council Meets in Washington, D.C.
— Feb 01, 2009

The Water Design-Build Council, established in 2006, may be relatively new, but it has an aggressive mission. The council was created to serve as an advocate to show the value of design-build for water and wastewater projects.

The council held its annual board of directors meeting Dec. 2 in Washington, D.C., at the offices of Jones Day. Council president Joe Adams, MWH, chaired the meeting. The council recently completed a survey of municipal water executives who used design-build for their projects. The agenda included a discussion of the status of this survey. Of note, the survey results reported that the major reasons design-build was chosen was single point accountability and the builder was involved in the design process.

The council is also launching another survey covering a comparative evaluation of design-build vs. conventional project delivery.

Guest speakers at the meeting included Diane Van de Hei, executive director of the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies, and Bernie Krzys, Publisher, UIM.

The meeting also provided the opportunity to welcome the newest member of the council - Black & Veatch. In addition, the council is composed of the following members: Brown and Caldwell, Carollo Engineers, CDM, CH2M HILL, Earth Tech/Aecom, Haskell, HDR, MWH and Veolia Water. The executive director is Sarah Chittenden. For more information about the council, go to the web at: www.waterdesignbuild.org.
